One Sunday, during my last semester of college, I was
invited to preach at Dale’s Chapel.
During the message I mentioned that in August we would be moving to
a distant city where I would begin my three years of seminary in the fall. Following the service an old-timer came to me
and questioned me about going on to the “cemetery.” I politely corrected him by saying, “Yes, I
decided to go on to seminary.”
His quick response was, “I call it the ‘cemetery’ because it
has ruined many a good preacher! Don’t
let the cemetery change you.”
I took it as a compliment that he liked my preaching, but I
never forgot his warning.
