“He’ll Take Them From Me”
Our home pastor at the Lakeland Crystal Lake Church where I
later pastored myself told me about dealing with a man who had the habit of
smoking. Pastor Deal explained to the
man that his body is to be the temple of the Holy Spirit and that smoking was
not pleasing to God because it defiled the temple where the Holy Spirit should
be living—besides, smoking is unhealthy and can lead to lung cancer.
The man listened carefully but then said, “I’ll tell you
what, pastor, when the Lord wants me to quit smoking He’ll take them from me.”
Pastor Deal’s response was:
“I’ll tell you what, let’s put your cigarettes over there on the mantel
and when the Lord wants you to have them, He’ll bring them to you.”
Sounds reasonable to me.
